Kevin Brown

Jul 6, 1959 — Sep 15, 2026

Kevin David Brown was born on July 6, 1959, and was chosen as a newborn by Dr. Darrell Brown, DO and Joanne (Carpenter) Brown of Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Canary Lake School in Des Moines for elementary school before attending Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. He later graduated from Saydel High School in Des Moines with the class of 1978.

Following his education, Kevin was blessed with a son, Jeremy. On May 4, 1996, he was united in marriage to Christina Ann Cantrell at the Manning City Park, and together they blended their families. Kevin worked a variety of jobs before attending National Truck Driving Academy. He went on to build a career as a truck driver, driving both intrastate and interstate routes for more than 27 years.

Kevin was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Master Mason and held memberships with Signet Lodge #264 of Carroll and Golden Leaf Lodge #395 of Manilla. He was also a member of York Rite of Council Bluffs and Signet Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Carroll, where he served as Grand Sentinel for the State of Iowa in 2022. Kevin was also active with the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) Chariots of Faith #301, serving as chaplain out of Atlantic.

Kevin had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a particular interest in Tenkara, an ancient Japanese fly-fishing technique. He also enjoyed attending Mountain Man Rendezvous and Cherokee Ridge Runners gatherings and was a member of the Black Powder Federation. He loved riding his motorcycle and taking in the beautiful views of Iowa along the way.

Above all, Kevin cherished the time he spent with his family. He was especially proud to share his Masonic and CMA interests with his son, Troy, and treasured having him become involved in both organizations. Kevin's many interests, adventures, travels and friendships were important parts of his life, but the time spent with those he loved most was what he cherished above all.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Kevin died on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, surrounded by his family, at his home in Manilla, at the age of 67 years, two months and nine days. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jamie Cantrell; and brother, Dana Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Chris Brown of Manilla; sons: Jeremy (Brittany) Brown of Omaha, Nebraska, Marc Cantrell of Cody, Wyoming and Troy Cantrell of Denison; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Darrell Dean (Anita) Brown, II of St. Charles; sisters: Kelli (Brett) Marshall of St. Charles, Missouri and Kristi Brown of Des Moines; mother-in-law, Carol (Richard) Schmidt of Manning; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
