Leo John "Chief", son of Norbert H. and Mildred (Steffes) Hoffman was born on August 25, 1962 in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up in the Willey area and attended grade school in Willey and Dedham. Leo then attended Kuemper High School, graduating in 1980. Leo then moved to Texas, where he worked in construction. He later lived in Indiana before returning to the Carroll area in 2003. Leo was a skilled woodworker and carpenter known for his quality finishing work. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willey. Leo also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and caring for his dog, "Buddy." In October 2011, Leo was diagnosed with cancer. On February 23, 2012 he passed away at his home near Willey at the age of 49 years 5 months and 29 days. Leo was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Norbert in 2010. He is survived by his mother Mildred Hoffman of Carroll; brothers and sisters:Joan and husband Rich Vogl of Carroll; Dave and wife Connie Hoffman of Willey; Leroy Hoffman and wife Jenny of Titonka; Ruth and husband Mark Broxton of Austin, TX; Bob Hoffman and wife Deb of Willey; Glenn Hoffman and wife Rhonda of Halbur and Marty Hoffman and wife Katie of Ankeny; 14 nieces and nephews; 5 great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
