Leonard Fischer

February 3, 1924 — August 14, 2014

Leonard Frank, son of Frank and Kate (Bierl) Fischer, was born February 3, 1924 on a farm near Templeton, Iowa. He grew up working on the farm and attended nearby rural school. As the youngest son, he remained home to help his dad farm and bootleg Templeton Rye. On June 5, 1951 Leonard was united in marriage with Lucille Broich. They made their home in Templeton and became parents of two daughters. Leonard was the mailman for the Templeton area until the family moved to Carroll where he worked for Badding Construction as a carpenter. Later, he started Fischer Construction and kept busy until his retirement in 1972. Leonard was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll, the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge. Leonard and Lucille thoroughly enjoyed polka dancing throughout their lives. He also enjoyed fishing, wood crafts, playing cards, dominoes, horseshoes, camping, word search books, and being king of BINGO. Most of all, Leonard took great pleasure in spending time with this grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and friends embraced his "called a spade a spade" personality. After Lucille's death in 2005, Leonard remained in their home until June 2014. He then entered the Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids where he was near many family members. He entered St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll on August 11, 2014. He passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 11 days.
