Leonard Walter, son of Frank and Anna (Wanninger) Sailer, was born October 20, 1938 on the family farm near Carroll, Iowa. He was raised on the farm south of Carroll until his family moved to the Schleswig area in the late 1950s.

On February 13, 1960 Lenny was united in marriage with Mary Ann Grote at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel. Six children were born to this union. Early in their marriage, the couple resided in Carroll. Leonard was employed by the Witt Flooring Company out of Davenport. In 1971 they moved to Manning after purchasing a farm northeast of Manning. They raised livestock and crop farmed while their family grew. In 1997 Lenny sold his last load of hogs, but remained active in the farming operations.

Leonard was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning. He enjoyed watching sports, following the Iowa Hawkeyes, and listening to Waylon Jennings. Above all, Lenny loved his family. He enjoyed following the activities of his children and grandchildren

On Saturday, September 5, 2020 Lenny passed away surrounded by his family at his home near Manning. He was 81 years, 10 months and 16 days of age.

Lenny was preceded in death by his parents; two sons Kreg Sailer in 2001 and Kurt Sailer in 2017; two brothers: Clarence Sailer and Richard Sailer; and Mary’s parents Herman and Colette Grote.
