Lois Raner, age 99, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 11, 2026. Lois was born on December 28, 1926, to Roy and Genieva Rose in Guthrie County, Iowa, where she grew up on the family farm alongside her three brothers, Carroll, Robert, and Kenneth. She attended school in Guthrie Center, and the values of hard work, faith, and community that shaped her early years remained with her throughout her life.
She later married Gerald Tague, and together they welcomed three children: Donald, Linda, and Dennis. Following Gerald's passing in 1950, Lois returned to the Bayard, Iowa, area, where she devoted herself to raising her family with quiet strength and steady love. Lois married Lambert (Hap) Theulen in 1952, who passed away in 1961.
In 1964, Lois married Norman Raner of Perry, Iowa. Lois and Norman built a wonderful life together in Perry, establishing a successful home decorating business and becoming cherished members of their community. They were active in the Perry Moose Lodge, where both gave generously of their time in support of Mooseheart, a charitable organization dedicated to children and families. Lois served with distinction as President of the Iowa Women of the Moose. Together, she and Norman also embraced a love of travel, exploring much of the United States and venturing to Europe in 1988.
In 1995, Lois and Norman retired and made their home in Arizona, where they enjoyed warm weather, good friends, and well-earned rest. They returned to the Bayard area in 2000, and following Norman's passing in 2010, Lois relocated to the Grimes and Urbandale area to be near her children and grandchildren—a move that brought her great joy in her final years.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Genieva; her brothers; her husband, Norman Raner; her daughter, Linda McLeod, and son-in-law, Doug McLeod; her granddaughter, Marnie Gunderson; and great-grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Smith.
She is survived by her sons, Donald (Nancy) Tague and Dennis (Donna) Tague; Norman's children, Phil (Trish) Raner and Shannon (Roy) Moore; twelve grandchildren; and many beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Above all else, Lois loved her family. She cherished every moment spent with them, and few things brought her more joy than watching the little ones in her life grow and flourish. She was a strong, kind woman who would do anything for the people she loved—and who lived her life exactly on her own terms, with grace and confidence.
Visitation with family greeting friends will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with a Funeral Service to begin at 10:30 a.m., all at the United Methodist Church in Bayard. Burial will be held in the Highland Township Cemetery in Bayard. Memorials may be directed to Donald Tague and will be used for organizations and causes that were special to Lois.
