Lyle Mcclellan

January 29, 1945 — December 12, 2016

Lyle Eugene, son of Paul Ellsworth and Edith Erma (Hagaman) McClellan, was born January 29, 1945, in Jefferson, Iowa. He grew up in Bayard and graduated from Bayard High School in 1963. Lyle completed his education at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa.

Lyle was united in marriage with Judy Betts on October 4, 1964, in Guthrie Center. Two children were born to this union.  The family lived in Des Moines until 1970 when they moved to a farm outside of Waukee. Lyle worked as an accountant for E. I. Sargent Quarries in Des Moines from 1963 to 1981 and as a parts clerk for Quarry Supply from 1981 to 1984.  In 1986, Lyle and Judy moved to a farm southeast of Coon Rapids where Lyle raised cattle as well as worked with his brother at Town & Country Parts in Guthrie Center.  He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and belonged to the Urbandale Jaycees.

While working for local farmers during high school, Lyle gained a love for farming and animals; he especially enjoyed working with cattle and took pride in caring for all sick or injured animals. Lyle also loved to raise horses and excelled at breaking them for his family and others. In his spare time, he enjoyed pheasant and deer hunting, fishing in Canada, playing adult league softball, and playing cards.  Above all, he loved being with his grandchildren and great grandson.

Lyle died suddenly and unexpectedly at home on Monday, December 12, 2016. He was 71 years, 10 months and 13 days of age.

Preceding Lyle in death are his parents Paul and Edith McClellan. He is survived by his wife Judy McClellan of Coon Rapids; two children CSM Curtis McClellan (Marci) of Guthrie Center and Deanna Van Cura (Erick) of Guthrie Center; two granddaughters Elizabeth Wehrle (Matthew) of New Sharon, and Rebecca Schwartz (Steven) of Bayard; great grandson, Landen Wehrle of New Sharon; brother Duane McClellan (Sheree) of Guthrie Center; brother-in-law Dennis Betts (Joyce) of Coon Rapids; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
