Graveside Services with Military Honors for 79 year old Lynn Schroeder of Manilla were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2024 in the Nishnabotna Cemetery in Manilla.
Lynn Merle Schroeder was born on June 29, 1945 to Violet Odessa (Wenzel) and Merle Harry Schroeder in Manning, Carroll County, Iowa. He grew up on a farm four miles north of Manilla. Lynn was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla.
He attended East Boyer #7 country school and then joined his sisters in attending Manilla Community School, where he graduated in 1963. While in high school he was active in the FFA serving as president. He was also inducted into the National Honor Society. And he was a member of the Coon Valley Conference Championship football teams in 1961, 1962 and 1963.
Lynn was inducted into the U.S. Army in October of 1965 and served until October of 1967, when he was transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves until October of 1971. He served in Vietnam and Japan. Following the service, Lynn worked in Farmland in Denison and also engaged in and enjoyed farming the family farm with his father and brother Mark along with his grandfather’s farm.
Lynn passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at his home in Manilla, Crawford County, Iowa. He was 79 years of age.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents and brother Mark Schroeder.
Survivors include his sisters: Connie (Bill) Natzke of Rochester, Minnesota and Carmen Schroeder of Papillion, Nebraska; three nephews: Todd (Shannon) Natzke, Ryan (Kristin) Natzke and Dean (Cindi) Edmunds; a niece, Sarah (Larry) Willmott; numerous great-nephews and nieces; and two great-great-nephews and a niece.
