Margaret Maxine Means

June 27, 1921 — January 19, 2015

Margaret Maxine, daughter of Frank B. and Hannah (Christensen) Means, was born June 27, 1921 in Manilla, Iowa. Margaret grew up in Manilla and graduated with the Manilla High School Class of 1939. For a year she attended the National Business Training School in Sioux City studying secretarial skills. In the early 1940's Margaret worked for Pennsylvania Salt & Ironworks in Chicago. She then joined International Importers, Inc. where she worked until she retired as Executive Secretary to the president in the 1990's. Margaret continued to live in Chicago until 2008 when she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to be closer to her family. Margaret was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, investing in the stock market, reading and crossword puzzles. When her health began to fail Margaret became a resident of West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids where she died on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the age of 93. Preceding Margaret in death were her parents and brother Robert Means. She is survived by her sister Grace M. Petersen of Marion; nieces Nancy C. Lord of Ormond Beach, FL and Susan P. Atwater of Cedar Rapids; nephew Robert P. Petersen of Faribault, MN; grandnephews Jordan L. Atwater, Mark R. Atwater, Khrystjan Petersen and grandniece Kasandra Petersen and many dear friends.
