Marilyn Kay,daughter of Lester and Mabel (Kerr) Agre, was born December 13, 1942 at Williston, North Dakota. When Marilyn was four years old, the family moved to Bayard, IA. She helped her dad with the milking and herding the cows. From the start Marilyn was a reader, often hiding in the closet to read so her mom would not see the light. Her favorite books were about horses. Marilyn attended school in Bayard, graduating from Bayard High School. While in school she excelled at 6 on 6' basketball, even being recruited by a nearby school district to play point guard. Marilyn attended Northwest Missouri State College, earning her degree with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Library Science in 1965. She continued her schooling in the summers to earn her major in Library Science. During this time she worked for nine years in the Forest City Community School District installing their elementary and middle school library. In June of 1974 Marilyn was united in marriage with Clifton Sours of Nashua at the Little Brown Church. To this union many Belgian draft horses were foaled and cared for. They both loved their many horses and gentled them well. At the time of her husband's death in 2004 they had 20 Belgium mares and four stallions on their place. After their sale, Marilyn and her sister Sally traveled to several places where her former horses now lived to check on their wellbeing. Most new homes were good, however, it broke her heart at those homes that left much to be desired. After her husband's death, Marilyn was a substitute teacher at Bremwood School for troubled youth in Waverly. She had great compassion for these abused children. While at the school she fell while playing volleyball (at the age of 65) and had to have surgery which required a lot of recuperation and physical therapy. She lived with her sister in Forest City after all of that and yet another fall. She could not return to substitute teaching which was a great disappointment to her. Marilyn enjoyed traveling with her family, especially her sister with whom she was very close, and even a Singles Group to Mexico. Marilyn felt compassion for people losing their hair as a result of harsh medical treatments. So, she donated her hair six times to "Locks of Love". She did without perms so she could grow healthy hair for this very worthwhile cause. As Marilyn's health began to fail, she was cared for by her sister Sally at home in Forest City. She died there on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the age of 71 years. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; sister Eileen Alexander; brother Arnold Agre and very special mother in law Lucille Sours. Marilyn is survived by her sister Sally Agre of Forest City; nieces Debbie Goodhue-Nolte, Angela Canelos and Kristen Agre; step niece Tracy Johnson; nephews Eric Edgington and Bret Agre; grandnephews Joey and Sam Canelos and Jett Forster; grandnieces Valerie and Ashton Goodhue-Nolte and Olivia Canelos; other relatives and many friends.
