Marlan J. Kohorst

Marlan Jerome, son of Vincent and Louella (Hinz) Kohorst, was born November 30, 1957 at Carroll, Iowa. He attended school at St. John in Arcadia, and graduated with the Kuemper High School class of 1976. Marlan attended Iowa State and received his associates degree from Western Iowa Tech. On September 8, 1984, Marlan was united in marriage with Tammy Irlbeck at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. They made their home in Arcadia and two sons were born to their union. Marlan worked as a diesel mechanic and then opened his own business, Tip Top Diesel Center in Arcadia. He operated the business from 1983 through 2004. Marlan then worked as an independent contractor driver. Marlan was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Arcadia. He was active as a coach and director of the Little League baseball league and volunteered in the Ar-We-Va booster club. Marlan was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa State Cyclone fan. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, cooking and playing cards. Marlan died suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday morning, March 17, 2012, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. He was 54 years, 3 months and 16 days of age. Marlan was preceded in death by his parents and sister Linda Collison in 1992. He is survived by his wife Tammy Kohorst of Arcadia; sons Michael Kohorst and Tyler Kohorst of Arcadia; sisters Elaine and husband Dr. John Kissel of Omaha, NE and Barbara and husband Ray Pille of Omaha, NE; parents-in-law Jerry and Sandy Irlbeck of Templeton; brothers and sisters in law: Phil Collison of Arcadia; Jeff Irlbeck and wife Kim of Carroll, Nancy and husband Brian Bruch of Audubon and Julie and husband Craig Promes of Denison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
