A Celebration of Life, for 82 years old Marlys Kloewer of Manilla, will be held from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Schram Park Shelter House in Manilla.
Marlys Lynn, daughter of Charles and Mildred (Kuchel) Birks, was born November 2, 1938, in Crawford County, Iowa. She grew up near Manilla and graduated from Manilla High School. Marlys then worked at Mutual of Omaha.
Marlys was united in marriage to Wayne Vennink. Three children were born to this marriage. Marlys was a stay-at-home for a time before taking a position with the Manilla Times. On March 18, 1977, Marlys was blessed with at second marriage, this time with Michael Kloewer in Vermillion, South Dakota. A daughter Deb was born to this couple. Marlys was also welcomed by a step daughter Shirley. Marlys and Mike made their home in Manilla, where Mike operated Mike's Plumbing and Heating (and eventually Hardware). Marlys worked beside Mike as his bookkeeper for several years.
Throughout the years, Marlys belonged to the Community Club, Rough Riders Saddle Club, and the MM Golf Course. She and Mike frequently played cards with friends. Marlys enjoyed golfing, reading, sewing, tending to her flower garden, and refinishing wood furniture. She cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Thursday, December 24, 2020, Marlys passed away at her home in Manilla, Iowa. She was 82 years, 1 month and 22 days of age.
Marlys is survived by her husband Mike Kloewer of Manilla; four children: Jeff Vennink and wife Cindy of Booneville, Arkansas; John Vennink and wife Deb of Sun Valley Lake, Iowa; Jamie Vennink of Spring Valley, Minnesota; Deb Brock and husband Dave of Manilla; a step-daughter Shirley Hansen and husband Nick of Manilla; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; her in-laws: Stella Bexten of Manilla; Fran Kloewer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Margaret Grote of Dunlap; Charlie Kloewer of Mapleton; and by numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons: Andy, Russell and Bruce Kloewer; and two grandchildren Elijah and Jennifer Vennink. Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla in charge of arrangements.
