Martha Vetter

September 20, 1912 — February 11, 2013

Martha Anna Wilhelmina, daughter of August and Minnie Noelck Vetter, was born September 20, 1912, in Washington Township, Carroll County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. Martha attended rural school near their home by Halbur. Following her schooling she worked at home before the family moved to Manning in 1942. Her first job in town was at the Priebe and Sons Egg Plant. Martha began working for Henry and Esther Peters at Peters Tavern and later became the owner of the newly named Corner Café on Main Street in Manning in 1961. Providing home-baked bread, pies and meals were their specialty. After she retired in 1975, Martha loved traveling with cousins and friends, especially to Europe, Alaska, and Canada and to many parts of the United States. Martha was a 70 year plus member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. She enjoyed playing cards, word search puzzles, reading, watching TV and visiting. She also served as the Vetter and Noelck family historian. Martha's 2012 highlight was being able to celebrate her 100th birthday. Martha resided at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home since August 31, 2007. She died there on Monday, February 11, 2013, at the age of 100 years, 4 months and 21 days.
