Mary Jane Marie, daughter of Walter and Malinda (Petersen) Grage, was born July 31, 1931 in Manilla, Iowa.  At the age of 4 years she moved with her family to Manning. She attended rural schools through the third grade, then Manning schools where she graduated with the Class of 1949. Mary Jane began working at a local grocery store and Priebe’s Hatchery after graduation.

On May 6, 1956, Mary Jane was united in marriage with Norman Dean Rothfolk. They moved to the Rothfolk family farm and raised their five children. Mary Jane was the consummate homemaker, baking, gardening, raising flowers, bird watching and helping with farm work. In addition, she enjoyed needle work and was the family pinochle champion, even with her grandchildren. Family was of the utmost importance to her. Later in life she worked at the Manning General Hospital and Casey’s General Store.

Mary Jane was a member of the United Methodist Church and WCS women’s group as well as the VFW Auxiliary. After the death of her husband in 2010 Mary Jane continued to live in their home until October 2013 when she moved to Park View Assisted Living in Coon Rapids with her daughter Kathy. About a year later they moved to Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home. Mary Jane died there on Monday, August 15, 2016 at the age of 85 years and 15 days.
