Mary Underberg

Mary Petronella, daughter of Henry and Mary (Snyder) Underberg, was born August 20, 1917 in Larchwood, Iowa. The family later moved to Mount Carmel before settling in the Lidderdale area. After her schooling, Mary remained home to help with housework. Mary lived with her father and sister Anna for many joyful years. While living there she worked privately as a housekeeper for various residents in the Carroll area. Mary then changed career paths and worked as a nurse's aide at St. Anthony Nursing Home. She made many great relationships with the residents and her fellow staff throughout the years. Mary's greatest passion was the Catholic Church. She attended Mass nearly every day at Holy Spirit Church. She helped clean and maintain the Greteman Center, church altar, and the other facilities. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and several other service organizations. When Mary took a break from her church-related activities she enjoyed attending Kuemper Catholic High School sporting events. Mary lived in her own apartment in Carroll until January of 2012 when due to health concerns she moved to St. Anthony Nursing Home. She died there on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 18 days. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Joseph (Velma) Underberg and sisters Anna Underberg, Marcella (Arthur) Wenck Mary is survived by her nephews Don (Marilyn) Wenck, Dale (Myrna) Wenck, Ed (Charlene) Underberg, nieces Linda Riesselman, Judy (Chuck) Rademacker, Joyce (Denny) Wilson and many great and great great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
