Maurine Davis

Maurine, daughter of Fred and Blanche (Lewis) Eigler, was born July 2, 1928, in Harlan, Iowa. When she was a small child, she moved with her family to a farm near Bayard. Maurine received her education in Bayard and Jefferson and graduated with the Class of 1946. She then attended and graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing with an RN degree in 1949. On November 26, 1949, Maurine was united in marriage with John A. "Jack" Davis at St. Patrick's Chapel in Bayard. To this union were born five children: John, Maurice, Anne, Mark, and Jon. The family lived on a farm south of Bayard until 1953 when they moved to a Greene County farm. Maurine worked at Greene County Hospital for three years, Thomas Rest Haven for thirteen years and volunteered with SHIP for ten years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and Altar Guild; The Red Hat Society; Lion's Club; and a coffee group of close friends. Maurine enjoyed her family, friends, homemaking, traveling, cooking, sewing, reading, learning and living life to its fullest. In 1990, Maurine and Jack moved into Bayard. Jack died in 2000 and Maurine continued to live in their home in Bayard. Maurine was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010, even though she had been diligent in her health care regimen over the years. She entered Guthrie County Hospital and was on hospice care for three weeks before her death there on Sunday, August 14, 2011, at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 11 days. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; infant son John Davis and only brother Maurice Eigler. Maurine is survived by four children: Maurice Davis and wife Laura of Irvine, CA; Anne and husband Ted Krienke of Pierce, NE; Mark Davis and wife Barb of Bayard and Des Moines; and Jon Davis and wife Brenda of Lyons, CO; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; other relatives and dear friends, including her former daughter-in-law Jenny Davis.
