Maynard Jensen

   Maynard Antony, son of Antony and Katie (Eskov) Jensen, was born May 8, 1928 at home on the farm near Elk Horn, Iowa. He was raised on the farm and attended rural school in Clay Township, Shelby County, Iowa. He completed his schooling at Elk Horn High School graduating with the class of 1945. He then farmed with his father.

   On April 24, 1949 Maynard was united in marriage with Rose Marie Hansen at Elk Horn Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born. They continued farming and Maynard also worked for Shelby County ASC for many years in the early 1970s. He operated Farmer’s Feed and Seed in Elk Horn until 1982 when the family moved to Tyler, MN. While there they farmed and Maynard worked for ASC. After they retired in 2000 the couple moved back to Elk Horn. Their son Carl died in 2006.

   Maynard was a member of Elk Horn Lutheran Church. He loved the land and to care for animals.  He was fond of having company, especially his children and their families.

   Maynard had heart surgery and suffered a stroke in 2011, never quite recovering. He entered Myrtue Memorial Hospital several days before his death there on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the age of 88 years and 11 days. Preceding him in death are his parents; son Carl; three sisters Mildred Andersen (Elmer), Evelyn Hansen (Ralph) and Glenda Andersen (Clifford); and great great granddaughter Alexis Nibblink.

    He is survived by his wife Rose Marie Jensen of Elk Horn; children Patricia Lange (Tim) of Sibley, IA Diane Jensen of Sibley, IA and Antony Jensen (Denise) of Hutchinson, MN; 9 grandchildren Daniel Lange (April), Jennifer Runge (Christopher), Christian Lange (Kimberly), Elizabeth Sims (Andy), Kaitlin Jensen, Greggory Jensen, Aric Jensen, Ryan Jensen and Nathanial Jensen (Rebecca); 10 great grandchildren Zoey, Madeline and Jackson Lange, Ashley (Josh Nibblink), Emily and Victoria Runge, Asher and Charlotte Jensen, and Freya and Odin Jensen, 2 great great grandchildren Aiden and Lillian Nibblink; many nieces and nephews, and many friends.
