Melba Alberta Schearman

September 19, 1907 — March 10, 2006

Melba Alberta, daughter of William and Laura (Eckholdt) Hamann, was born September 10, 1907, at home on the farm near Irwin, Iowa. She started her schooling in rural school near Irwin and completed it in the Manning Schools. Grad? Melba then moved to Chicago to work in a department store. After it was robbed, she decided it was too scary to live in the city and returned to Iowa. On September 9, 1926, Melba was united in marriage with Vernon Mathew Shearman at Harlan. They lived in many communities in Iowa because of her husbands work with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. She was a homemaker all her life, caring for their two daughters. When Vernon retired from his last position in Wall Lake in 1971, they made their home Lake View where they enjoyed the final years of their seventy-two years of married life. In 1997 they became residents of Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View. Her husband died the next year at the age of 92 years. Melba continued to live at the Black Hawk Live Care Center where she died on Friday, March 10, 2006, at the age of 98 years and 6 months. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband and great-granddaughter Stephanie Reinking. Melba is survived by her daughters Gloria Peters and Gwen Reinking of Lake View; grandson Dennis Reinking of Portland, OR; two great-granddaughters Amber and Robert Moyle of Wickliffe, OH and Natasha and Jon Fiediga of Euclid, OH; great-grandson Brook Reinking and Danielle Lockwood of Sunrise, FL; five great-great-grandchildren Coty, Brittany, Bobby, Austin and Savannah; other relatives and friends.

Graveside Funeral Service was held Monday, March 13, 2006, at 10:30 AM at the Manning Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, with Reverend Marshall Brown, United Presbyterian Church officiating. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.
