Myra Emelia, daughter of Edwin and Elsie (Fonken) Willesen, was born February 22, 1936, in Carroll County, Iowa. She grew up near Gray and graduated from Gray High School in 1953. During school, she was active in 4-H and basketball. Myra then attended Iowa State Teachers' College in Cedar Falls and subsequently taught school for 2 years in Sioux Rapids.

On June 12, 1957, Myra was united in marriage with Amos Wilhelm Asmus at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lincoln Township, Audubon County. Myra and Amos farmed near Gray in rural Audubon County where they raised their eight children. Myra was a self-sufficient farm wife and mother; she tended a large garden, canned produce, sewed curtains for the house and clothes for her kids, walked beans, detasseled, and did much of the finish work when they built their house. In 2004, they retired from farming and moved to Carroll in 2007. Amos passed away in 2013, and in 2016, Myra moved into what is now Manning Senior Living, where she enjoyed reading and crocheting.

Myra was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. She enjoyed quilting and participating with Ladies Aid. Myra was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking. For more than 20 years, she cooked at the Friendship Home in Audubon, before cooking for Congregate Meals in Exira and Manning.

On Wednesday, February 2, 2022, Myra passed away at Manning Senior Living in Manning. She was 85 years, 11 months and 11 days of age.

Myra was preceded in death by her parents; husband Amos Asmus; a son Jonathan Asmus; a grandson Benjamin Pedersen; two sisters Donna in infancy and Sharon Grimm; two sisters-in-law Pearl (Emil) Kurth and Arlene (George) Bruhn; and Amos' parents Wilhelm and Ella Asmus.

Myra is survived by five sons: Mark (Michelle) Asmus of Gray; David (Linda) Asmus of Alden; James (Lori) Asmus of Manilla; Darrin Asmus (Roxanne) of Audubon and Stephen (Sarah) Asmus of Audubon; two daughters: Melissa (Brad) Pedersen of Fort Dodge and Kathryn (David) Hughes of Chesapeake, Virginia; 23 Grandchildren; 19 Great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Dennis Grimm of Manning; nieces, nephews, and friends.
