Norman Spencer

February 27, 1952 — November 23, 2013

Norman's family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30 at the Burr Oak Visitors Center in Coon Rapids. Norman Carroll, son of Nelson Spencer Jr. and Dixie (Weaver) Spencer, was born February 27, 1952, at Fort Carson Army base near Cripple Creek, Colorado, where his father was stationed for the military. He lived most of his childhood in Audubon, Iowa, and graduated from high school there in 1970. Norman attended trade school to study auto body work. He was united in marriage with Cynthia Madison and born to them were three daughters. Norman moved to Coon Rapids to help his cousin Les Wiles with his sandblasting and painting business. He also operated his own carpet laying business through the years. Norman tinkered with cars and built bicycles for the neighborhood children. He enjoyed riding his own bike and reading. He also enjoyed playing frisbee at yearly family reunions and listening to Pink Floyd or taking drives in the country. Spending time with his granddaughter AJ was a great joy for him. Norman was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia in 2003. After a long and brave fight, he was taken into the Lord's hands at his home in Coon Rapids on Saturday, November 23, 2013 where he was surrounded by his closest family. He passed away at the age of 61 years, 8 months and 27 days. Norman is preceded in death by his mother, his father, and his stepmother, Ruth Spencer. He is survived by his daughters: Heather Grace, Theodora Joy, Gabriella Renee and Delaney Moriah; brothers: Donald Spencer, Jeffrey Spencer and Leslie Wiles; sisters: Vickie Blum and Valerie Stetzel; grandchildren: Jeremiah Even and Autumn Spencer; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
