Penelope "Penny" Carpenter

December 14, 1943 — September 25, 2019

  Penelope “Penny”, daughter of Charles and Corrine (Wallingford) Cutler, was born December 14, 1943, in Newark, New Jersey. She grew up in Newark, New Jersey where she graduated from high school in 1961. Penny then earned a Degree in Education from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
   On November 28, 1965, Penny was united in marriage with Doug Carpenter in Chicago, Illinois. Two sons were born to this marriage. Penny taught in elementary schools wherever Doug served in the Air Force. The family lived in Fairborn, Ohio; Great Falls, Montana; Papillion, Nebraska; Rome, New York; and finally in Forrestville, Maryland where they both retired. In 2004, Penny and Doug moved to Coon Rapids, Iowa where Doug grew up.
   Penny enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, and reading books. Penny loved her boys and a favorite pastime was helping them with homework and sewing their clothes.
   On Wednesday, September 25, 2019, Penny passed away at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, after suffering a stroke the previous day. She was 75 years of age.
   Penny is survived by her husband Doug Carpenter of Coon Rapids; two sons: Matt Carpenter and Josh Carpenter, both of Coon Rapids; two sisters: Cyndy Messineo and husband Vinnie of Wilmington, Delaware, and Judy Cutler of Dover, New Jersey; a niece Jenn Jankowiak and husband Jeff of Sewell, New Jersey; a brother-in-law Charles Carpenter of Coon Rapids and a sister-in-law Susan Carpenter of Coon Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents.
