Philomena E. Naberhaus

March 1, 1919 — January 21, 2013

Philomena Elizabeth, daughter of Louie and Mary (Reising) Woerdehoff, was born March 1, 1919 on a farm near Wall Lake, Iowa. She attended rural school near her home and then worked as a housekeeper for families in the area. On May 11, 1944 Philomena was united in marriage with Wilfred Naberhaus at St Bernard's Church in Breda by Rev. Schleyer. They spent their first year in Clinton and then settled in Halbur where her husband worked as a blacksmith and welder and then started Naberhaus Implement. Philomena was a homemaker and cared for their eight children. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the family implement business for 27 years. Philomena spent her life doing what she loved: raising her family, quilting, fixing puzzles, crocheting afghans, and of course playing cards. She was very proud of her family and was always there to lend a hand in whatever project needed to be done. Philomena was a devoted full time grandma, a role which she embraced and brought her great joy. She was a member of St. Augustine's Parish and Guild. Philomena cherished Wilfred, her husband of 66 plus years. Her generosity and sense of humor will be missed. In 2008, after living in Halbur for 60 years, Wilfred and Philomena moved to Westwood Knolls in Carroll. They then moved to the Carroll Health Center in March 2010. Philomena died there on Monday, January 21, 2013, at the age of 93 years 10 months and 20 days. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; two daughters Karen Olberding and Jean Ann Naberhaus; three grandchildren Daniel Olberding, Mary Kay Sporrer and Willy Jordan; brother Art Woerdehoff and two sisters Lucille Ricke and Loretta Koster. Philomena is survived by six children: Shirley Jordan (Bill) of Manchester, NH; Dennis Naberhaus (Pat) of Midland, MI; LaVonne Bonnie' Sporrer (Paul) of Dedham; Eileen Prebeck (Gene) of Templeton; Leon Barney' Naberhaus (Cindy) of Carroll and Sandy Wittrock (Kevin) of Halbur; son-in-law Jim Olberding of Lake City; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law: Evelyn Woerdehoff of Wall Lake; Bernetta Pudenz of Pocahontas; Ann Lappe of Carroll; Mary Ann Naberhaus of Mt.
