Ray Lingle

May 1, 1928 — March 6, 2013

Ramon Conrad, son of Alfred and Edith (Darling) Lingle, was born May 1, 1928 on the family farm near Deloit, Iowa. He attended rural school in the Deloit area and after completing his education, farmed at home with his father. He moved to Manilla and began farming on his own. Ray was united in marriage with Josephine Boeck on February 1, 1950 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Manilla. From 1948 to 1951 Ray served in the Denison Unit of the Iowa National Guard. They lived on a couple of farms until 1976 when he purchased his first 80 acres. They raised eight children of their own and were the parents to many other children over the years. Some of these children were Cliff Waterbury (Vicki); David Achey and through him Elaine Orcutt, Darrell Paulson and Diane Lahr and their families. All of the children who passed through this family felt very blessed to have been a part of their home. Ray loved his farming whether it was raising crops, his cows and calves or the milk cows. He enjoyed taking his wife to Dairy conventions all over the Midwest. They also enjoyed their motorhome and camping with their family. Wherever they camped or traveled it most certainly involved fishing, one of his many passions. He also had a knack for teasing and having a good time. He enjoyed going to football games in Kansas City with his neighbors. Over the years Ray could be found at the sale barn on most Saturday mornings, a pastime he continued after retiring from farming until his health prevented that activity. Ray was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla where he had been baptized and confirmed as an adult. Ray and Jo lived together on their farm near Manilla until no longer able. They moved together to the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in February of 2012. Ray's health continued to decline and he died there on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 5 days. Preceding him in death are his parents; grandson Sam Kremin; great grandson Owen Waterbury-Lingle and sister Margery Lochmiller. Ray is survived by his wife Jo Lingle of Manilla; eight children: Raymond Tom' (Deb) Lingle of Manilla; Connie (Darrell) Buzzell of Ogden; Nancy (Steve) Kremin of Manilla; Rodney (Shireen) Lingle of Denison; Kevin Lingle of Manilla; Keith (Donna) Lingle of Platte City, MO; Denis Wally' (Traci) Lingle of Decatur, NE and Leonard (Paulette) Lingle of Aspinwall; 21 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; many of the other special children who lived with Ray and Jo over the years; two sisters Janice Carlson of Denison; Donna Kerr of Denver, CO; three brothers LeRoy (Judy) Lingle of Manilla; Daniel (Martha) Lingle of Fairgrove, MO and David (Rosetta) Lingle of Anaheim, CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
