Richard Milo, son of Milo B. and Helen E. (Lichty) Clark, was born September 19, 1930, in Harlan, Shelby County, Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Botna. Dick was a 1949 graduate of Manning High School and attended Iowa State College for two years. From September of 1952 to September of 1954, Dick served as in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was assigned to cooking school at Ft. In 1946, 1948 and 1950, Dick had the Shelby County Grand Champion Steer and was active in 4H, serving as Shelby County 4H president in 1949 and 1950. During this time, he also had the Champion Heavyweight Steer at Aksarben. Dick was a longtime member and director of the Western Iowa Preconditioned Cattle Feeders Organization. He was very active in several church offices as a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church in Manilla. Dick was also the life-long last of the Clark-Duvall family reunion at his farm every year; this was his most enjoyable event.
