Richard Henry Bancroft Sr.

   Richard Henry, son of Edgar Allen and Maggie Jane (Jackson) Bancroft, was born April 22, 1925, in Beaver Township, Guthrie County, Iowa. He grew up on a farm in Guthrie County and attended Morning Star country school near his home. Richard then worked on a farm and then as a mechanic.    On June 10, 1950, Richard was united in marriage with Mildred Joyce Chase in Guthrie Center. Two sons were born to this union. The family first lived near Jefferson where Richard worked as a carpenter with his brother Walter. They then moved to Coon Rapids where Richard worked as a mechanic for Robinson Garage until 1963 and then for Kanzmeier Farms until his health forced him to retire in 1985.    Richard was a member of the First Christian Church in Coon Rapids. His favorite pastimes were fishing off of the Main Street bridge and car riding on Sunday.    In 2005, Richard and Mildred became residents of Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa, where Richard died on Friday, October 27, 2006. He was 81 years, 6 months and 5 days of age.    Richard was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Elizabeth and husband Chester Moore; Martha and husband Edward Moore; Eva Mae Akers; a brother John Bancroft and wife Marie and a brother-in-law Robert Robison.   He is survived by his wife Mildred Bancroft of Coon Rapids; two sons; Richard Henry Bancroft Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Audubon and David Ray Bancroft and wife Diane of Raytown, MO; five grandchildren: Lisa and husband Carl Winebrinner, Tawnia Bancroft, George Bancroft, Alan Bancroft and Janelle Bancroft; a brother Walter Bancroft and wife Marie of Buffalo, MO; a sister Phyllis Robison of Buffalo, MO; a brother-in-law Nyle Akers of Exira; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
