Robert William "Bob", son of Edward and Roseann (McQuiston) Titus, was born February 13, 1947 at Homewood, PA. He grew up around the Pittsburgh area and graduated from Allegheny High School in 1965. Following graduation Bob entered the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He was united in marriage with Lenore Merwick on April 11, 1967 in Pittsburgh and then completed his enlistment at Quantico, VA. Following four years of active duty, he was inactive for two years and then honorably discharged in 1969. Bob earned his Associates Degree in Administration of Criminal Justice in 1978 after working in security for a number of companies in Pennsylvania. Bob accepted the position of Police Chief in Manilla, IA in 1978. The family made their home in Manilla where he took his responsibilities in law enforcement very seriously. He was always ready to help anyone in need. Police work was his life 24/7 and the family took very few vacations out of town. In what spare time he had, he enjoyed going to movies and watching TV, shopping and catching site of red tail hawks, turkeys and other wild animals in their road trips in the area. His family recalls that he was a very competitive player of board games and was a wonderful husband and father. After his retirement in February of 2000, Bob missed contact with all the people of his community. He suffered from diabetes and heart problems and spent some time in the Crawford County Memorial Hospital and the Manilla Manor Nursing Home due to lasting effects of a stroke. He died at the hospital in Denison following a short stay on Saturday, October 19, 2013. He was 66 years, 8 months and 6 days of age. Preceding Bob in death are his parents and son Robert W. "Bobby" Titus Jr. He is survived by his loving wife Lenore Titus of Manilla; daughter Michelle Titus of Manilla; brothers Charles Titus of NJ and Edward Titus of PA; sisters Linda Applegate of NJ, Virginia Costlow of TX, Roseann Singer of OH and Dorothy Hale of NJ; other relatives and friends.
