In Loving Memory of Rollin H. Kuhl

Rollin H. Kuhl was born on May 4, 1941, and passed away surrounded by loved ones at Manning Assisted Living in Manning, Iowa, on August 27, 2026. He attended Manning schools and, at the age of 17, answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Navy on January 27, 1959. He was stationed at the U.S. Naval Station in San Diego, California.

On October 9, 1965, Rollin married Beverly Talbott. Together, they built a family and were married for 43 years. They were blessed with three children: Sheila Peters of Crowley, Texas; Scott (Tia) Kuhl of Inverness, Illinois; and Sara (Aaron) Wagner of Batavia, Illinois. Rollin was also a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

After his time in the Navy, Rollin built a life centered around hard work, family, and his many talents. He became an electrician and worked for Iowa Public Service. A skilled craftsman, he even helped build the family home in Irwin, Iowa. His entrepreneurial spirit led him into several other ventures, including owning a dog kennel and a trucking business.

Rollin had many interests, but his greatest joy was his family and having people around him. He taught all of his children to play sports, passing along not only his love of competition but also the competitive spirit that became a part of each of them.

He found joy in the simple things, too. He enjoyed gardening, shooting hoops, fishing, and playing Rook with family and friends. He loved watching westerns and was an avid reader, always happy to have a good book in his hands. These hobbies reflected the many sides of Rollin—curious, competitive, independent, and always ready to enjoy time with the people around him.

Those who knew Rollin will remember his generous heart, positive outlook, and willingness to help anyone in need. He often reminded others to “count it all joy” through life’s troubles and considered himself truly blessed. He faithfully checked on family and friends, prayed for them often, and asked the Lord to surround them with His guardian angels. His kindness, faith, and joyful spirit touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Rollin had a laugh that could turn heads and a personality that seemed bigger than life itself. He could tell story after story, keeping everyone around him laughing and entertained. His four-year fight with cancer may have been a long and difficult goodbye, but it also gave those who loved him precious time they will always be thankful for.

Rollin and Beverly went their separate ways, but they remained connected through their children and grandchildren. Rollin spent his later years with friends in Manning and the last year of his life at Manning Assisted Living, surrounded by the care and support of others in his community.

Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Sheila Peters of Crowley, Texas; Scott (Tia) Kuhl of Inverness, Illinois; and Sara (Aaron) Wagner of Batavia, Illinois; his ten grandchildren, Dillan, Meghan, and Morgan Peters; Cameron, Davyn, Ty, and Raquel Kuhl; and Weston, Hope, and Kaden Wagner; and his three great-grandchildren, Piper Mosby, Jaycee Peters, and Jameson Peters. He is also survived by his best friends, Darlene Vollstedt and Vickie Steffes, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rollin was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Kuhl and Alice Wilhelm-Jahn; his parents-in-law, Arthur and Dorothy Talbott; his brother, Gene Kuhl; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Kuhl.

A graveside service and interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin, Iowa, on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. The service will be followed by a meal and celebration of life at the Manning Hausbarn Konferenze Centre at 5:30 p.m.
