Rosalie Jane, daughter of Frank and Gladys (Day) Siemer, was born March 28, 1938, at Denison, Iowa. She attended Manilla schools, graduating with the Class of 1956.

On December 16, 1956, Rosalie was united in marriage with James Macumber at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. Jim received his draft notice for the United States Army one day before the wedding. Following their honeymoon they returned home to Manilla. Jim left for basic training at Ft. Ord, California and in April of 1957 Jim returned to Manilla and Rosalie joined him while he served at Ft. Rucker, Alabama and then Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. Their first son was born just before returning to Manilla after Jim’s honorable discharge from the Army.

The family made their home in Manilla where another son was born. Rosalie was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church volunteering in many capacities. During their first years back in Manilla they had cattle behind their home at the edge of town and ground the corn that they grew for feed. Rosalie was a wonderful cook and baker, and she loved to feed her family and friends. She was committed to visiting residents at the Manilla Manor where she also did a lot of sewing and repair work on their clothing. Above all, she and Jim enjoyed their Airstream trailer. They traveled all over the United States and even made it into Canada. They were members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International Unit and the North Iowa Unit.

After the automobile accident in which her husband Jim was killed in 2014, Rosalie worked diligently to overcome her many injuries and surgeries.  She was determined to return to their home and her longtime work at Ohde Funeral Home – and she accomplished both goals.

Following a wonderful weekend with her siblings in Missouri, Rosalie suffered a massive stroke while shopping. She underwent surgery at a hospital in Des Moines and then moved to Kavanaugh Hospice House, also in Des Moines.  She died there on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 12 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim Macumber; daughter Sharon K. Macumber right after her birth; sister Lois Maxwell and brother-in-law Dayle Hilterbrand.

Rosalie is survived by her sons Michael Macumber of Sac City and David Macumber of Manilla; grandchildren Jeremia (Elaine) Macumber and Sydney Macumber, both of Manilla; siblings Marilyn Hilterbrand of Yuma, AZ; Max (Mary) Siemer of Princeton, MO; Rex (Dona) Siemer of Spickard, MO; Gail (Betty) Siemer of Trenton, MO; Dean (Donna) Siemer of Nixa, MO; David (Karol) Siemer of Princeton, MO; Pat (Randy) Nemitz of West Des Moines, IA; and Pam (Mark) Lane of Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law Dick Maxwell of Manilla; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
