Rose Ann Thomssen

Rose Ann, daughter of Bernard (Ben) and Hilda (Hamann) Stegemann, was born July 10, 1938 in Denison, Iowa. She made her home with her family in Manilla. After the death of her mother, when Rose Ann was 13 years old, she helped raise her siblings. Rose Ann graduated from Manilla High School in 1956. On June 28, 1959 Rose Ann was united in marriage with Larry Lee Thomssen at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They made their home in Manilla and were the parents of three children. Rose Ann was a homemaker and also kept books for her husband's business, Larry's Standard Service, for 30 years. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla and Trinity Ladies Guild. She enjoyed going on trips to the Ozarks and other family vacations, including an annual visit to the Clay County Fair. She also took pleasure in camping and fishing. Rose Ann was always busy cooking, making rye bread, canning, reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching TV westerns or listening to country music. After the death of her husband in 2006, Rose Ann continued to live in their home in Manilla. She entered hospice on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 the week before her death on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. She was 76 years, 1 month and 2 days of age. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; brother Larry Stegemann and infant granddaughter Kelsey Klindt. Rose Ann is survived by her son Brent Thomssen (Lisa), Manilla; daughters Yvonne Klindt (Lee), Manilla and Lisa Sample, Denison; 8 grandchildren: Sara, Anna, Tina and Jessica Thomssen; Kayla Martin (Travis); Krista Ullrich (Drew); Dustin Sample (Mary Mandeville); Melissa Arevalo (Junior); 5 great grandchildren; brother Darell Stegemann, Manilla and sister Beth Cates (Ron), Carroll; other relatives and many friends.
