Rose Marie Mcalister

November 11, 1935 — September 22, 2021

Rose Marie, daughter of Peter and Barbara (Schulte) O'Tool, was born November 11, 1935, in Carroll and grew up in Auburn, Iowa. She graduated from St. Angela's Academy in 1954. Rose then worked at A&W as a car hop.
On May 1, 1954, Rose was united in marriage with Jimmie Dean McAlister at St. Joseph's Church in Carroll. Nine children were born to this union. Rose and Jimmie then lived in Charles City and Tama. In 1955, they moved to Bayard where Jimmie established McAlister Parts & Equipment and Rose worked as a stay-at-home mom. She also sorted corn at Garst and Thomas, and worked as a funeral attendant at Ohde Funeral Home for several years.
Rose was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the Ladies Guild. She also served on the Bayard Library Board and the Bayard Nursing Home Board. She enjoyed playing cards, Yahtzee, going to the casino, drinking coffee, and playing games with her grandchildren. Rose tolerated her family at great length. Her straightforwardness about her faith greatly influenced her children.
After Jimmie died in 1999, Rose continued to reside in their home until 2015 when she moved into Park View Assisted Living. In 2019, Rose became a resident of Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home where she passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. She was 85 years of age.
Besides her parents, Rose is preceded in death by her husband Jimmie McAlister; one granddaughter Tiffany McAlister; two grandsons Thomas McAlister and Joseph Daniel McAlister; sisters: Elvera (Clarence) Tiefenthaler and Marcille (Lawrence) Engel; brothers: Wilmer (Rosina) O'Tool, Marvin O'Tool, and Ivan (Bernice) O'Tool; three sisters-in-law: Lorraine McAlister, Dolores Roberts, and Izetta Wilson; and three brothers-in-law: Iris J. "Mac" McAlister, Loren McAlister and William (Bill) Muhlbauer.
