Ruth Luanna, daughter of Harry and Hazel (Cushman) Payne, was born on the farm near Coon Rapids, Iowa, on January 25, 1914. She grew up in Coon Rapids and attended rural schools. She completed school through the 11th grade at Coon Rapids High School. Ruth stayed on the farm and worked with her father.                She was united in marriage with Frances Gruber on November 22, 1932. They were married only nine years when her husband died in April 1941. In 1944 Ruth was united in marriage with Charles Frank Storony in St. Joseph, Missouri. Charles passed away in 1983.       Ruth worked at Armor Poultry in Coon Rapids for many years, then delivered the Sunday paper, worked at the Coon Rapids Locker, and at the laundry in Thomas Rest Haven for eleven years. She also ran a boarding house out of her home over the years.       Ruths volunteer work later in life earned her a Presidential Volunteer Award. She helped at the New Hope store in Coon Rapids, St. Anthonys Hospital in Carroll and worked through R.S.V.P.       Ruth was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the First Christian Church in Coon Rapids. She taught adult Sunday school classes and held various church offices.       Ruth was a wonderful cook and baker and spent many hours quilting, knitting and crocheting.      Ruth lived in her own home until she became a resident of the Thomas Rest Haven nursing home in Coon Rapids in May of 2005. Due to a recent broken hip and failing health, she died there on Sunday, December 3, 2006, at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 8 days.       She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister Nellie and husband William Durbin and brother Ralph Payne.      Ruth is survived by nephew Victor Durbin of Aurora, CO; nieces Ruby and husband Eldred Holden of Bode and Ruth Olson of Polk City and John Olson of Bode; nieces Rita and husband Orville Deardorff of Bagley and Marie Theulen of Council Bluffs; nephew Donald Gruler and wife Katy of Balsam Lake, WI; other relatives and friends.
