  Sheila Rae, daughter of Leo and Ella (Sternberg) Engel was born January 30, 1947, in Harlan, Iowa. She attended school in Defiance, graduating from St. Peter High School in 1965.  Sheila then attended beauty school in Council Bluffs and began working as a beautician.

  On June 19, 1971, Sheila was united in marriage with Doug Bornhoft at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla. Three children were born to this union. In addition to caring for her family, Sheila spent 17 years working as a dietary cook at the Manilla Manor. In her spare time, Sheila enjoyed gardening, traveling, shopping and spending time with her children. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manilla and the Altar and Rosary Society. 

  In February of 2005, Sheila was diagnosed with cancer and began her courageous battle with the disease. In March of 2007, Sheila was admitted to Manning Regional Health Center in Manning, Iowa, where she died on Friday, April 6, 2007, at the age of 60 years, 2 months and 7 days.

  Sheila is preceded in death by her father Leo Engel; and father-in-law Arlo Bornhoft. 

  She is survived by her husband Doug Bornhoft of Manilla; three children: Lisa Bornhoft of Manilla; Paul Bornhoft of Johnston; and Kati Bornhoft of Ames; her mother Ella Engel of Manilla; two brothers: Doug and wife Bev Engel of Omaha, NE; and Keith and wife Ann of Council Bluffs; sister Kathy, husband Mike, and son Eric Kintner of Mesa, AZ; and many other relatives and friends.
