Shirley Simmons

December 29, 1938 — July 18, 2016

Shirley Ann, daughter of Raymond and Agnes (Spoo) Rudolph, was born December 29, 1938, at home in Carroll County, Iowa. She attended country school.  Shirley was united in marriage with Eugene Marshal Simmons on August 28, 1960 at Coon Rapids.  Four children were born to this union and the family made their home in Coon Rapids.

Shirley worked in various jobs for Garst & Thomas through the years.  She also worked for her brother Dale in several restaurants, where she met many lifelong friends.  Shirley’s favorite pastime was playing cards and she loved socializing with family and friends.  She also liked to fish, sew for the Thomas Rest Haven nursing home residents and travel with her sisters and friends.  Shirley was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Coon Rapids.

Eugene died in 2012 and Shirley continued to live in their home in Coon Rapids.  Following a battle against cancer and a short stay at the Thomas Rest Haven nursing home in Coon Rapids, she died there on Monday, July 18, 2016.  She was 77 years, 5 months and 19 days of age.
