Sue Vaughan

November 27, 1953 — June 20, 2016

   Sue Ellen, daughter of Marion and Gretchen (Kinnick) Vaughan, was born November 27, 1953 in Jefferson, Iowa. She lived with her family in Bayard and graduated from Bayard High School in 1972. On December 9, 1972 Sue was united in marriage with Ken Ayers. They made their home in Bayard where their son Keith was born. Ken died an untimely death on June 2, 1973.

   Sue attended Des Moines Area Community College for Commercial Horticulture and ran a garden center for five years. She then started working for the United States Postal Service. She became Postmaster in Bayard in 1983. On August 27, 1987 Sue was united in marriage with John Stringer and they lived in Bayard. To this union two children, Lainey and Jake, were born. They moved to an acreage near Guthrie Center and Sue commuted to her post office job in Exira starting in 1988.

   After her divorce Sue moved to Manning, eventually resigning from the postal service in 2005 to  care for her daughter. She continued to live in Manning and enjoyed volunteering, sewing and quilting in her spare time. Sue was a talented stain glass artist, making many special gifts and heirlooms over the years.  One of Sue’s favorite things to do, was to spend time with her two grandkids, Cooper and Lilah. Sue was also a faithful AA member.

   Sue died as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the age of 62.

   She is preceded in death by her parents; son Jacob ‘Jaker’ Stringer; husband Ken Ayers and brother Richard Vaughan.

   She is survived by her children Keith Ayers of Bayard and Lainey Stringer and husband Drew of Perry; two grandchildren Cooper Stringer and Lilah Stringer (and her mother Katie Edgington); sister Ann Presley of Indianola; many relatives and friends.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bayard Community Center, Thursday, June 30, 2016. beginning at 5:30 pm with a pot luck dinner, followed by a short program, with a time of sharing and celebrating.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you would make a donation to Animal Rescue of Carroll, where Sue was currently employed.
