Wilma Faye Bogatzke

Wilma Faye, daughter of John and Vera (Houdeshell) Jackson, was born on June 19, 1944, in Lake City, IA.  She graduated from Lake City High School in 1962, and afterwards moved to Carroll, IA.   

Wilma worked for Northwestern Bell in Carroll as a telephone operator from 1962-1965.  On December 11, 1965, she married Myron Bogatzke at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township, IA.  She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity in April 1966.  Their marriage was blessed with 3 children: Karla (JR) Gierstorf of West Des Moines, IA; Martin (Michele) Bogatzke of New Ulm MN; and Craig (Tracy) Bogatzke of Schleswig, IA.  The couple farmed near Manning from 1965-1981, when they moved to Manning.  

Wilma worked at numerous places in Manning; the Manning Plaza, Wells Manufacturing, Burcliff Industries, Iowa Workforce Development, and at Manning Regional Healthcare Center.  She was an avid fan of all sports, and particularly loved the Iowa Hawkeyes.  She retired at age 71 and moved to West Des Moines at age 74.   She passed away on March 17, 2024, at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines at age 79.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Myron; brothers Jim and John Jackson; and sister Helen Allen.  She is survived by her children and their spouses; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters Verna Sporleder of Elk Horn, IA, and Bonnie Rocker of Lincoln, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with Family Greeting Friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Wilma's Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with visitation to resume at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Interment will be in the Manning Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family where they will be used to fund projects to further the Lord’s work.
