Michael Liggett Lipton

Michael Liggett Lipton, Age 74, died on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at his home in Manilla. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Nishnabotna Cemetery near Manilla. Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla is assisting Mike's family with arrangements.

Michael Liggett Lipton was born on September 9, 1943 in Van Nuys, Los Angeles County, California to Sylvia Martha (Liggett) Lipton and Harry Lipton. His mother Sylvia worked as an actress and model in New York City and later settled in California where she met Michael's father, Harry, an agent for the National Concert Artists Corporation and known for signing on Marilyn Monroe. His father passed away in Europe in 1951.

Michael grew up in California and at the young age of seventeen he joined the Navy on September 19, 1963 completing basic military requirements, Navy training course for fireman, and a course for main propulsion auxiliary machinery maintenance and repair. During his military career he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal before being honorably discharged from active duty on August 17, 1967. It was sometime after that when Michael began his commercial trucking business and continued this when he came to live in Manilla in 1985 with his mother, Sylvia, whom he took care of until her passing in 2002. Through his trucking business he traveled many places throughout the United States. At around age sixty-five, he retired from commercial trucking and slowly thereafter began to decline in health.

Despite his health, Mike had a good humor, enjoyed sharing stories of the good ol' days, and could still be stubborn as heck. He very much enjoyed his family and friends' company and conversation. Those who knew Mike will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, aunts, uncles, and is survived by: his first cousins Margaret (Liggett) Corbin of Rochester, New York, Lynne (Liggett) Zickerman of Comptche, California, and Richard Liggett of Kings Beach, California, other relatives and many, many friends both near and far.
